Robbery and attempted hijacking by four suspects at a Beverley complex

BEVERLEY - Two armed men attempted to hijack and rob a man, while another two suspects robbed a house of jewellery and car keys at a Beverley complex at around 4.15pm on 29 October.

According to Douglasdale Community Policing Forum chairperson Jean Berdou, it is believed that two armed men driving a white Mercedes tailgated a driver as he was entering his complex. Berdou said they pointed firearms at the man’s head and forced him to enter his home. They stole jewellery from the house and then it is believed that something spooked them and they fled the house.

Berdou said a further two suspects were already inside the complex and robbed a house of jewellery and car keys.

Berdou said the suspects also accosted a guard in the complex’s guard house and apprehended him with handcuffs. Berdou said no shots were fired and no injuries were sustained.

“A major response from the Douglasdale Sector 4 Neighbourhood Watch, Night Guard Security and Fidelity Security took place within minutes of the incident. Douglasdale police are looking into the matter,” said Berdou.

He also warned residents to check their rear view mirrors when entering their homes and said that if they thought they were being followed, they should rather drive past the scene.

Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said police were investigating the case and cautioned residents to be observant when entering their complexes.
