Ballyclare Drive is still covered in potholes

BRYANSTON - Another year is about to go by and Ballyclare Drive in Bryanston is still in tatters.

Residents are concerned that the rainy season is fast approaching and the potholes will begin to resurface, once again causing havoc on the road with traffic congestion. The storm water drainage system remains dysfunctional and water continues to run down Ballyclare Drive.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency held a press conference last year following the collapse of the Coleraine Drive bridge where they outlined initiatives to address the damage caused by heavy downpours and flooding, and detailed the agency’s plans to repair the ailing road infrastructure.

Initially, the road agency had committed to start repairing Ballyclare Drive mid-May last year. The roads agency missed that deadline but started setting up signage, speed bumps and traffic accommodation requirements to prepare motorists for repairs that were meant to take place in November the same year.

It is now almost a year since the signage, speed bumps and traffic accommodation requirements were put in place, and Ballyclare Drive is still covered in potholes.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, the spokesperson for the roads agency, recently said a contractor had finally been appointed to start the process of repairing the road and a handover of the site had been completed.

She added that prior to the commencement of any work on Ballyclare Drive, a public meeting would be held at Bryneven Primary School on 28 October at 6pm to discuss the details of the project.

ā€œThe Johannesburg Roads Agency is looking forward to engaging the community and all interested parties on the specifications of the project where residents will have the opportunity to raise any issues or concerns that they may have,ā€ said Peters-Scheepers.
