‘Will you marry me, my love’
FOURWAYS - Roelien Reyneke took her boyfriend, Jarryd Hettema, for an all-expenses-paid holiday for two in Mauritius after winning a Rapport Leading lady selfie competition.
All she had planned was to enjoy herself at Solana Beach Resort in the arms of her boyfriend but instead got more than she bargained for … As the sun was setting one evening, Hettema went down on one knee and asked for Reyneke’s hand in marriage.
“On 20 September, at Solana Beach Resort Mauritius, during the sunset, the love of my life went down on his one knee and asked me the following ‘Roelien Reyneke will you make me the happiest guy alive and please be my best friend for now and forever, as l can’t imagine life without you? Will you please marry me?’ I was so surprised and so overwhelmed with joy, I could only cry,” said the University of Johannesburg law student.
Hettema could not conceal his love for the apple of his eye. He unreservedly poured out his heart during an interview with the Fourways Review. The 26-year-old car salesman divulged that he has a never-ending love for Reyneke. “I can do anything for her. I organised photographers before we went to Mauritius to secretly follow us and capture a shot as I went down on my knee to ask her to marry me. There is no better feeling than marrying your best friend,” said Hettema.
Reyneke, who is on the verge of completing her LLB at the University of Johannesburg, announced that they will be officially taking their three-year-old love relationship to another stage in 2017.
“We plan to get married during 2017 but have not set a definite date. It’s still feels like we are walking on cloud nine. The trip, and the engagement, has been the most special time of our lives and I know that the best is still to come,” said the lass.
The two met in 2013 at a new year’s eve braai at a mutual friend’s Fourways home, but only started dating on 17 February 2013.
They have not looked back since.
