Power cuts in Paulshof leave residents in the dark

PAULSHOF - Although Eskom has implemented very little load shedding for the past month, and none in Paulshof, some sections of Paulshof have been hit by electricity cuts.

Resident Cynthia Lewis requested answers from Ward 106 councillor Stephen Moore. “I live in Paulshof and in the last two weeks we have been without electricity three times for extended periods of time. I call Eskom each time and every time they tell me it is a faulty breaker. I would like to understand why they can’t fix it properly once and for all,” fumed Lewis.

She said her family was getting tired of having to throw away food from the fridge due to a lack of power. “The first time we were without power for 12 hours, the second time for six-and-a-half hours (and that was two days apart) and after the second time we had to throw away a whole bunch of food,” complained Lewis.

Moore said he also had been without power on 7 September, adding that Eskom was outside the jurisdiction of councillors.

“Eskom doesn’t fall under the oversight of councillors, however, I do have contacts there and will chase up with them. I had a brief conversation with one person who suggested it may be the result of construction work occurring in the area. But I need to confirm that with Eskom directly,” said Moore.

Efforts to acquire comment from Eskom drew a blank.
