Citadel hosts second Inspiration Indaba in Bryanston

BRYANSTON – An Inspiration Indaba took place at The Forum in Bryanston to inspire attendees with accounts from people who had conquered adversity and gone on to be successful.

This was financial services company Citadel’s second Inspiration Indaba and it was a day of sharing by passionate and inspiring South Africans who told the story of their journeys.

The indaba is a platform where positive and moving stories are shared with the hope of changing the country’s dialogue to one of hope, action and progress. Opened by Citadel CEO, Andrew Möller, the event had six speakers, each in a different phase of their lives, who shared their inspiration and insight.

The first speaker of the day was Ludwick Marishane, founder of Headboy Industries and inventor of DryBath. He recounted his growth as an entrepreneur. “We need to solve real problems, not money problems,” said Marishane.

“I’m here today not to make you feel better, I am here to make you do better.”

Other speakers included Andre Hugo, M4JAM co-founder; Robert Brozin co-founder of Nando’s; Ernst van Dyk, South Africa’s top wheelchair athlete; Dr Adrian Saville; and Wendy Luhabe, founder of South Africa’s first women-owned investment company, Women Investment Portfolio Holdings.

Luhabe said, “We have many amazing South Africans – we should be inspired by what these South Africans are doing.”

Hugo shared his company’s success story and its vision. “I want to change the world, one micro job at a time with the hope of improving the unemployment rate in South Africa,” he added.

Van Dyk talked about how he did not use his disability as an excuse. The 10-time Boston Marathon champion, 2006 Laureus award winner, multiple paralympics and world championship medalist, and recipient of the 2002 and 2004 Presidential Golden Award for Sport, is South Africa’s top wheelchair athlete.
