Future City Fourways submits first phase application to City Council

FOURWAYS- Future City Fourways submitted the first phase of its application to the Johannesburg Region E City Council for an improvement district licence on 2 October.

Future City Fourways submitted the application within 11 weeks of its 9 July public launch. The improvement district licence requirs written proof of at least 25 percent of affected ratepayers’ support.

According to CEO of Specialised Area and Improvement Districts, Hans Jooste, it was unheard of for a submission to be collated and submitted in less than three months of the launch of its public participation process.

He added that the process of compiling the documentation and submission for stage one, as required by the Gauteng Provincial City Improvement District Act Number 12 1997, usually took between six to eight months.

Future City Fourways’ bid to Johannesburg City Council involved an application to install an area improvement initiative that will provide top-up security and cleaning services, in addition to those already supplied by council on William Nicol Drive from Steyn City to the highway, and on Witkoppen Road from Douglas Drive to Main Road, Lonehill.

Douglasdale CPF chairperson, Jean Berdou, who is a founding member of the FCF said, “Not only have we submitted in record time, but the bid catchment area covers nearly 28 000 properties, both residential and commercial, making the performance of the team involved in preparing this colossal bid simply astounding. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and professionalism of the FCF team.”

Director of FCF, Susan Mottram said, “The efforts invested in this application are testament to the FCF team’s deep commitment to ridding William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road of crime and grime, making Fourways a safer and cleaner place that builds community pride and cohesion, and attracts investment.”

“This has resounded with the many ratepayers who have got behind this initiative. Once implemented, FCF will be the largest improvement district in Africa.”

FCF is proposing to council that R50 be levied per residential property owner, per property, per month fixed for three years, with similar levies for the commercial sector.
