Clay Oven fireside fight ends in stabbing

PAULSHOF - A 32-year-old man living in the Clay Oven settlement on the corner of Main and Witkoppen roads was arrested on 20 September after allegedly stabbing a fellow resident.

Sandton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, said the Clay Oven community tipped off the police about the incident.

Maphakela added that some residents were sitting around a fire on the evening of 19 September when a quarrel between the suspect and the victim ensued. The nature of the argument is still unclear.

Maphakela added, “The suspect and victim began to fight. The suspect allegedly produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest before fleeing the scene.”

When police officers arrived, the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital to receive treatment for his wounds.

Maphakela said the police arrested the suspect after he attempted to gather his belongings at his home.

He was charged with attempted murder and appeared in court on 24 September.
