Test run ahead of EcoMobility Month

SANDTON - As the Sandton Central Business District and residents of surrounding areas gear up for EcoMobility Month which kicks off on 1 October, the morning of 29 September saw a public transport test run.

City Improvement District manager for Sandton Central, Elaine Jack, said the test run was an opportunity for taxi and bus drivers to familiarise themselves with the route from the park and ride facilities in Balfour Park, Innes Free Park, Bright Water Commons and Montecasino. The route has been closed off with orange cones from Republic Road to William Nicol and Sandton drives.

The buses will operate on a loop that runs through Rivonia Road, Fredman Drive and Fifth Street in the Sandton CBD. The loop hosts a series of contraflow lanes which sees one side of a traffic island being dedicated to public transport.

City of Johannesburg spokesperson, Wonder Dlamini said, “Certain routes leading into the Sandton CBD will be affected, including Republic Road, William Nicol Drive, Sandton Drive and Katherine Street. The changes will be in place from 6am until 9am, and again from 3.30pm until 7pm.

Dlamini added, “We urge all road users to be patient and courteous towards fellow travellers. Please be on the lookout for changes that are made to existing roads, follow the signage and obey the directions from officials and marshals.”
