Cansa fundraiser rocks Barnyard Theatre

RIVONIA – Aimed at raising funds in aid of cancer awareness, the 50 Carat Gold event in aid of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) took place at the Barnyard Theatre, Rivonia.

The exciting event, which saw 50 of the greatest hits of all time being performed, took place on 6 September and was hosted by Mrs South Africa finalist, Marlene Naiker, who explained that it was part of her fundraising intiative for the association.

Naiker added that the sold-out event was her last event ahead of the pageant finale taking place next month at Emperor’s Palace. “I’ve been looking forward to it, it’s been a long time coming and I wanted to ensure that people have a fun-filled relaxed afternoon out,” she said.

Naiker further explained that she decided to host her fundraiser in September to coincide with Cansa’s SunSmart campaign, which highlights skin cancer. She went on to say that she chose this campaign because it was something close to her heart because of her family’s love for the outdoors.

“I thought it was the perfect campaign because [cancer is] so easy to prevent and something I can relate to,” she said.

The Cansa fundraiser included a brief speech from a cancer survivor and a Shavathon table, with all proceeds going towards the association.
