A family’s desperate plea for justice

PAULSHOF – The family of Luresha Govender, a 36-year-old Paulshof resident who was found murdered in her home on 31 December last year, continues to seek justice.

Nad Govender, Luresha’s father, explained that the case had so far been extremely traumatic. “As far as I’m concerned it was cold-blooded, pre-planned and -meditated murder,” he said.

The trial started on 28 August at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Referring to her daughter’s murder, Rani Govender said, “It still feels like yesterday.”

She added that being in court brought back all the emotions, “Seeing the accused on the stand is like reliving the whole experience.

“Sometimes I feel not knowing all the details is better. The fact that he [the accused] shows not a bit of remorse makes it worse.”

Speaking in court and addressing the accused, Anthony Strauss, State advocate Nerisha Naidoo said, “You have no respect for anybody else, that is what has been exhibited in this court.”

Naidoo added that it was clear that Strauss saw Luresha as a source of money. “You saw this young Indian girl as a gold mine.”

Strauss, who was living on Luresha’s property for work purposes, has been accused of strangling the deceased with an electrical cord and stealing her car.
