New leadership for Sandton CPF

SANDTON – The Sandton Community Police Forum’s new leadership wants to see the community working closer with the police.

The forum’s new chairperson, Anthony Modena, who took over from former chairperson, Wendy Robertson, has a vision to build a strong relationship between the police and the community by building trust and raising awareness.

“I’m still getting into the role and finding my feet,” said Modena.

“I’m still deciding what to do and I’m getting to know the community and understanding their needs.”

He added that as much as he wants to get to know the community, he wants them to know who he is as well. As part of the development of the forum, Modena said he was looking at adding a few new roles to focus on specific areas in the forum, one of them being the media communication area, as well as the financial side.

“This role is not about me, it’s a community role,” he added.

“I am here to serve the people, to build a community that is safe so that people can get a good night’s sleep and not be skeptical about starting a business in our area.”

Modena explained that by making Sandton a safer place to live, it will attract investors who want to grow the economy.

“People must know that when they come to Sandton, they are safe,” he added.

“We all need to work together and help where we can. Everyone needs to get involved and do a bit more than usual. There is still a lot more that needs to be done.”

Community members are encouraged to get involved with the forum. Yogi Govender, the forum’s administrative assistant, said the forum has something that suits everyone’s time, interest and energy. Help is sought at the forum’s street patrolling sector, youth desk, trauma unit and many other areas.

“All these things help in building a better and safer community,” added Govender.
