Police confirm Bryanston shootout

BRYANSTON - Honeydew Police Station's Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs confirmed that four suspects were involved in the robbery of a chiropractor’s office in Bryanston which ended in a shootout on 24 August.

Jacobs said the suspects entered the office on the corner of Old Kilcullen and Peter Place roads at 6.50pm. The victim, who was struck by one of the gunmen, alerted the police and activated the alarm. A Securitas officer investigated.

Managing director of Securitas Sean Kinsey said, “One of our security guards was on duty at a complex in Peter Place. He responded to an alarm that sounded and upon further investigation he discovered suspects robbing a chiropractor’s office.”

Kinsey stated that a shootout ensued between the suspects and the Securitas guard. When the guard ran out of ammunition and attempted to flee, he was shot in the back before the suspects escaped.

Jacobs added that the suspects stole a laptop and jewellery and are still at large.

Client liaison officer for Securitas Linda Reeder said the officer was admitted to the nearest hospital and released the next day.

Jacobs concluded, “Police are currently busy with follow-up information and obtaining statements.”
