UPDATE: Douglasdale CPF states that notices of suspension have been signed

DOUGLASDALE - The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum stated that the notices of suspension have been signed for the two Douglasdale police officers who allegedly assaulted two victims in Fourways on 18 August.

 

According to chairperson of the forum, Jean Berdou, the two officers who were involved in the incident have been identified by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and investigations are continuing. Notices of suspension have been signed for both officers.

He added that the forum worked together with it’s Provincial Oversight committee which was instrumental in ensuring that swift action was taken concerning the suspended officers.

“We want the community to be reassured that the persons who are entrusted with protecting the country are equal before the law in regards to their conduct and that no one is above the law,” Berdou expressed.

“The Douglasdale CPF wishes to reiterate to the community that such behaviour that has occurred in the set circumstances is unacceptable in the extreme and that nothing short of swift action [such as this was required].”

He concluded that the matter will be further investigated and announcements would be made in due course.
