UPDATE: Alleged police brutality cops are no longer on duty

DOUGLASDALE - Chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum Jean Berdou confirmed the docket of the alleged police brutality case had been handed over to the Independent Complaints Directorate, so that it can be independently investigated.

He said various parts of the investigation had been passed on to the Gauteng Provincial Police along with the decision of suspending the members of Douglasdale police.

“At the moment I can confirm that they are on leave, so they are not on duty. The Douglasdale CPF is waiting on the decisions to come out from the Provincial Office as to the officers’ status,” he said.

He added the investigations were ongoing and were at a sensitive stage and he asked the community to please be patient and calm while the investigation process unfolded so that it could be investigated properly and by the book. “We do not want shortcuts, we just want the investigation to be thorough and that the correct steps are approached,” he said.

He hoped the status of the officers would be announced later on 26 August.

Kelly Belman, portfolio manager of Pineslopes Shopping Centre where the incident took place said, “This is an unreported incident and we are investigating.”
