R67 000 cheque handover to Stop Hunger Now SA

FOURWAYS - Residents of Fourways Gardens Residential Estate handed over a cheque of R67 000 to Stop Hunger Now SA.

The money was raised to help provide Mahlasedi Pre-school pupils with food parcels.

Stop Hunger Now SA is a volunteer-based meal packaging and results oriented nutrition programme, which was started in South Africa in 2009. The meals are highly nutritious and comprise rice, soya, a dehydrated vegetable mix and a fortification pack of 23 essential minerals and vitamins specifically formulated to combat malnutrition.

Present to receive the cheque at the estate was Brian Neil, Gauteng branch manager of Stop Hunger Now SA. According to Neil, about 2.5 million South African children go to bed hungry every night and don’t know where their next meal will come from.

The fundraising initiative was the brainchild of a resident of the estate, Claire Rose. The money was raised at a Mandela Day event at which pupils of Mahlasedi Pre-school enjoyed a fun day at the residential estate.
