Still no water at Sunninghill taxi rank

SUNNINGHILL - The Sunninghill taxi rank is still without water, several months after the completion of its refurbishment, and Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe is not having any of it and wants the water service to be connected.

Deppe said R800 000 of taxpayers’ money was thrown into the refurbishment project which was meant to be ‘completed’ on 15 February. “The contractors left the site without installing water. How can such a public facility operate without water?” fumed Deppe during an interview with Fourways Review.

Deppe said efforts to get the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport to shed light on the matter drew blanks. She said officials from the department were not even honouring dates scheduled for meetings with the community.

Khomotso Ratlabala, a department specialist on public transport, wrote to Deppe proposing a meeting on 31 July over the unfinished project, but the meeting was cancelled.

Deppe said nothing has happened since then, adding that no other information was communicated to her by the department.

Ratlabala referred Deppe to her colleague, Theodora Borman, for any further inquiries as she was going on leave until August.

Borman told Fourways Review she was not in a position to speak about the project. She then referred this paper to Simphiwe Ntuli who was not available when this paper called his office.

Ratlabala’s phone also kept on ringing without being answered.
