Gauteng Premier and MEC to officially open upgraded William Nicol

FOURWAYS - Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi will officially launch the William Nicol Drive’s Phase 1 project on 25 August at Steyn City.

The R300-million project, which forms part of the public-private partnership with the Steyn City development, included the upgrading of K46 William Nicol Drive into a dual carriageway.

The project also included the demolishing of the existing Jukskei River Bridge and the construction of two new bridges crossing the river.

“A new interchange in the vicinity of the Erling Street intersection to provide access to the Telesure and Steyn City Developments in the west and Century City developments towards the east of road K46 was constructed,” reads part of a statement which was released by the department.

The road will connect Bryanston, Sandton, Hyde Park, Rosebank and Johannesburg via Jan Smuts Avenue. It will also improve access to the Diepsloot area and Fourways towards Randburg.

During construction, black economic enterprise contractors were provided with a substantial portion of the work, while local and other labourers were trained on how to execute the work with a high degree of safety.
