UPDATE: Man arrested for knocking down boy in Farmall

FARMALL – A three-year-old boy is in a critical condition after he was run over by a car in Homestead Avenue, Farmall.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police confirmed that a 33-year-old man had been arrested for reckless and negligent driving as well as for driving under the influence of alcohol.

20 August; 7.04pm

The boy, who was hit after being dropped off by a school bus at around 4pm, was airlifted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital shortly after the incident.

Michelle Stewart, a Farmall resident who sat by the boy’s side explained that the suspect was taken to Olivedale Hospital for alcohol testing.

Chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum Jean Berdou  commended the Farmall residents for their quick response. He said, “The quick action of the community has probably saved his life.”

Police are yet to comment.
