Creation of the Greater Kyalami Alliance

KYALAMI – Members of Sun Valley Estates, Blue Hills Country Estate, Beaulieu Country Estate and Saddlebrook Residents' Association have come together to form an umbrella body, the Greater Kyalami Alliance, in order to collectively represent the needs, wants and interests of all their members.

According to Andrew Dicks, chairperson of the alliance, the umbrella body currently represents 675 households with a desire to collectively demand improved services from the City when their needs are not being adequately met, despite their high contributions to the City coffers.

Dicks added that there was also a dire need to protect and ring-fence the current Regional Spatial Development Framework (RSDF) from the City’s uncontrollable need to change the land use of the area.

He said, “The Alliance is therefore looking to enhance, protect and preserve the common vision and goals of the members. We aim to create a socially, environmentally and economically vibrant community that can maintain its chosen lifestyle while meeting the economic growth needs of the City.”

Most importantly, the alliance’s constitution provides for the incorporation of governance on all issues to be represented in such a way that every member (or affiliate) will have the ability to comment on, or reject each and every representation made on their behalf.

Dicks added that the alliance aimed to have clear communication structures to provide full access to information so that representatives are accountable for accurately reporting and representing the needs and wants of its community.

“The alliance will also become responsible for tracking that correct legislative and regulatory processes and procedures are being followed with, mainly, land use and development issues affecting the area,” Dicks concluded.

The alliance makes provision for and encourages other like-minded non-governmental organisations, schools, sports clubs or even individuals not represented by other non-member residents’ associations to become affiliates, and for other residents’ associations in the Greater Kyalami area to become members to ensure that their collective voices are heard.
