Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Sandton police, said the suspect was spotted walking in between parked cars. “When the suspect noticed that the security officer was looking at him, he started running and jumped into a black Opel Corsa and drove off,” explained Maphakela.
He said the security officer gave chase and the suspect was caught at a traffic light. Sandton police were then contacted. The police prefer not to provide the name of the company where the security guard works.
Maphakela added that the CCTV footage was observed and it showed the suspect trying to steal the spare wheel from a Toyota Hilux.
The suspect was detained at the Sandton Police Station and will appear in court soon.
