Christmas comes early for FreeMe

PAULSHOF – Local residents and supporters of FreeMe Rehabilitation Centre had a jovial time in the winter sun during Christmas in July which was hosted by the non-profit organisation, Friends of Rietfontein on 19 July.

This was the second time the event was held, and spokesperson for the organisation, Catherine Geurden, was overwhelmed with the support received on the day.

“The turnout had risen to almost 200 people this year and everyone used the theme of white with a touch of red and green, to the full,” said Geurden, referring to the competition for the best decorated table. “The winners of the best table setting used only white items, and they dressed up to match.”

The purpose of this event was to create awareness of the Rietfontein Nature Reserve and support FreeMe Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, who received ample proceedings from the event.

“The talented string ensemble and the marimba band from Beaulieu Preparatory performed for attendees, and DJ Collette kept the vibe upbeat as diners socialized and enjoyed the great weather.

Christmas in July concluded with Santa’s arrival and a prize giving for best dressed table and children.
