WATCH: Car jamming suspects busted

DOUGLASDALE – Two suspected car jammers were arrested after they were apprehended in swift reaction time by Night Guard Security.

Trevor Hepburn, spokesperson for the security group, said their operations team responded to a report of suspicious activity at a shopping centre in Douglasdale on 20 July at around 5pm.

“The suspicious men were monitored and followed across the road to a neighbouring centre,” said Hepburn, who also said their operator noticed a white Ford Fiesta which had been implicated in numerous car jamming incidents in previous weeks.

“When the team approached the suspects, they attempted to flee, but the team then blocked their escape. They were then detained until police arrived,” Hepburn said.

Fake number plates were stuck to the original number plate of the car and multiple long-range jamming devices were found in the vehicle along with electronics which were assumed to be stolen.

An alleged victim of the car jammers, Justin Solyom, also had more information to share on the arrests. Solyom had his laptop stolen out of his car when he stopped at a filling station in Olivedale on 11 July. He returned to the filling station after he noticed the laptop was missing to view security footage from the day.

“I think they might have been following me,” said Solyom.

“I hope now that they have been arrested, I could possibly get my laptop back. I have photos of my daughter’s birth on there, her first giggle, the first time she walked … Those are my most cherished memories.”

Solyom took a video with his phone of the CCTV footage showing the suspects in action.
