Smelly Diepsloot toilets replaced

DIEPSLOOT - The City of Johannesburg has finally relented and has provided Diepsloot residents with new temporary toilets.

Six brand-new modern toilets were delivered to Diepsloot’s Ext 11, much to the relief of residents who have had to contend with stinking toilets for the past five years.

The development followed the sensational revelation by Fourways Review of the toilets that had become a health hazard to residents and were bringing more infection than hygiene.

DA councillor in the area Refilwe Mathebula said she was relieved that the council had brought better service to the people of Diepsloot.

“The council has eventually replaced those toilets and this should have been done before the issue was spilled onto newspaper pages. We thank Fourways Review newspaper for sending our message to the council. Instead of appreciating that I am raising important issues, members of the mayoral committee are attacking me for taking people’s problems to the media,” said Mathebula.

Mathebula said she hoped the council will clean the toilets twice a week from now on.

“I hope they will not wait for six months to either clean or replace these temporary toilets,” said Mathebula.
