Douglasdale CPF does its bit for Mandela Day

FOURWAYS – The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Douglasdale Police Social Upliftment Unit, together with various security companies, churches and corporates did their bit for the community and held a major Mandela Day clean-up on 18 July.

Stretching from the Auto and General bridge to the concrete highway, William Nicole Drive was flooded with volunteers all eager to do their part to remember Madiba.

Jean Berdou, chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, explained that different sectors took on different tasks within their respective communities.

According to Berdou, the deployment involved over 500 personnel and included feeding underprivileged children, cleaning and a substantial security presence.

“CPFs in Florida, Randburg, Roodepoort and Honeydew also contributed,” Berdou said.

Berdou thanked the community for their support.

He said, “It is an honour to remember Madiba. The fact that Madiba’s legacy is still able to unite us all is amazing.”

Berdou added that Mandela Day was more about serving, selflessness and reaching across barriers – all values that Madiba stood for.
