Organisations compete to keep Fourways clean and safe

FOURWAYS - TWO organisations competing to keep the area clean and safe, Fourways Improvement City District (FICD) and Future City Fourways (FCF) have emerged.

Both are presenting themselves to Fourways residents as panaceas to the urban decay and insecurity in the area. They are aggressively soliciting for the backing of local property owners, which is a key requirement to be registered by the City of Johannesburg.

Nic Papas of FICD, which launched its activities in the area a few weeks ago during a low-key street cleaning event, said he was confident that his organisation would get licensed within three months.

Advocate Jean Berdou of FCF hosted a glittering launch of his organisation at Montecasino on 9 July.

Both parties are fishing for the much-needed backing of local property owners from the same pond, and have both roped in the services of renowned urban services providers.

Papas has joined hands with Ryan Mathew of Urban Genesis Management and Berdou secured the services of Rashika Padarath of Andira Urban Services.

The two organisations have started servicing the area on a voluntary basis while waiting for either of their applications to be approved by the City of Johannesburg. The preferred applicant will be permitted to charge a levy on property owners in exchange for providing services.
