Halford Road remains a concern for residents

HALFORD - FOLLOWING repeated questions on the deteriorating state of Halford Road, the Johannesburg Roads Agency has finally clarified the cause of the breakdown of the road in Bryanston.

A portion of the road had been breaking up for several months and has been a cause of concern for residents and Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood.

Wood had initially raised questions about the state of the road in May in Road Damage, week ending 22 May, asking the entity to step in and fix it.

The agency had initially responded to Wood’s concerns, saying that the matter would be investigated and the cause of the breakdown of the road determined.

Residents have since added their frustrations, also questioning the reason for the breakdown of the road and the lack of action from the side of the entity, despite the issue being reported numerous times.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, marketing and communications operations manager and spokesperson for the agency, finally explained that the issue on Halford Road was a reinstatement matter following work done by Joburg Water.

“This [reinstatement] follows work on pipes by Joburg Water and our regional team will ensure [the] reinstatement [will be completed] within next week,” she said.

Peters-Scheepers also explained a reinstatement was an issue whereby another entity applied for a wayleave form from the agency to fix the road following work done by that entity.

“The agency, after receiving the wayleave application, approves it and issues a work order for the request. [We] will then be able to follow up on the areas the entity was working on and make the necessary repairs,” she explained.

She apologised to residents for the inconvenience caused by the ongoing matter, and encouraged residents to report such issues, as well as any other road-related issues to the agency for their attention.
