Man gives woman a lift and gets robbed

MIDRAND - A man was allegedly robbed of his personal belongings in Summit Road in Midrand on 2 July after giving a woman a lift.

Midrand police said the complainant alleged that he gave the woman a lift from Diepsloot, who said she was headed to Noordwyk. Midrand police social crime prevention co-ordinator, Constable Nanty Belebesi said, “While the complainant was driving along Summit Road, the woman asked him to pick up two people she knew.”

The complainant stopped for the woman’s male friends, and as her friends got into the car, the woman grabbed his cellphone which was placed between the front seats. One of the men then searched the cubbyhole but could not find anything. They asked for the complainant’s wallet and took R60 and gave his wallet back. They also took a gold chain that the complainant was wearing

The men searched the boot of the complainant’s car and stole his laptop.

No suspects have been arrested yet.

Belebesi urged, “Motorists should not offer lifts to people they do not know to avoid being robbed or hijacked.”
