New bridge for Ebury Park

BRYANSTON - The Ebury Park Residents Committee has made leaps and bounds in their attempt to rehabilitate and care for Ebury Park with a newly-erected bridge over the Braamfontein Spruit, among other developments.

Since the formation of the committee in September last year, as a reaction to constant fires and disruptions caused by vagrants, it has made a great deal of progress in healing the park.

Spokesperson for the committee Lex Geraghty said, “The initial drive was to tidy up the park and make the park appealing to pedestrians. Residents have been active in cleaning up the park regularly, funding maintenance and undertaking improvement projects wherever possible, including installing rubbish bins, park benches, kiddies gyms and painting distribution boxes.”

The initial donation of R11 000 was spearheaded by Marianne Du Plessis from Fine and Country and local resident Philip Lidgey. But with residents showing more interest in funding the park’s rehabilitation, the drive was oversubscribed. This left the committee with enough funds to add benches, rubbish bins, a jungle gym and a bridge which will go over the Braamfontein Spruit which runs through the park.

Geraghty added that the project was a great community initiative as it brings forth a sense of ownership among the residents who use Ebury Park and will be more inviting to visitors to the area.

Du Plessis said the committee thought the park was a very important part of the area and deserved a proper stable bridge, adding that it was also a security issue.
