Educational board game addresses rape and abuse

SANDHURST - Charity organisation Tears, a nationally accessible assistance and support network for victims of rape and sexual abuse, recently launched an educational board game in Sandhurst that addresses rape and abuse.

Founder of the organisation, Mara Glennie, explained that LifeBoard is an engaging and fun game which provides a safe platform where pupils could engage with topics surrounding rape and abuse, and at the same time be educated about their rights, roles and responsibilities in an interactive way.

“Through play, children can learn more,” said Kalliste Kuhn, a member of Tears. She explained the benefits of the game to a group of guests and volunteer coaches at a training workshop. The volunteer coaches are individuals who have a passion to serve and facilitate better care, proper support and positive outcomes for victims of rape and abuse.

The board game has also been endorsed by the Department of Basic Education. Not only is the game an effective tool to utilise within schools, but community members and educators can also be trained on how to facilitate the use of the game and use it where applicable.

Tears is always on the lookout for passionate young volunteers who are keen to make a difference within the organisation and the community.
