Mind the (generation) gap

PAULSHOF - "Different generations see the world differently," said Dr Graeme Codrington.

Understanding how values differ between generations is the key to improving modern business performance.

This was the message of Dr Graeme Codrington, an international speaker and author of the book, Mind The Gap. Codrington was speaking to MBA students at Henley Business School Africa.

“The work world is moving away from a traditional top-down management structure to a more collaborative model of learning and output,” said Codrington.

He has been a staunch advocate of harnessing generational strengths in a bid to improve business performance. Codrington’s main example is the necessity of utilising the youths’ predisposition towards digital media.

“Businesses should have the younger generation running the digital strategy because they are the ones who grew up in the digital world.”

Codrington has been voted Speaker of the Year by the Academy for Chief Executives, and has been inducted into the Speakers Hall of Fame of the Professional Speakers Associations of South Africa, UK and Ireland. He has shared platforms with the likes of Edward de Bono, Sir Ken Robinson, Neil Armstrong and Kofi Annan.

“Henley’s goal with these events is to give students and their families the tools and knowledge to allow their MBA to have a positive impact on their family life,” said Jon Foster-Pedley, dean of Henley Business School.

“We want to empower families to thrive during their MBA studies.”
