Diepsloot police proud of successful arrests

DIEPSLOOT – Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, was pleased to announce the successful arrests of four suspects over the weekend of 6 and 7 June.

Three armed robbers were arrested just minutes after they allegedly robbed a man of his cellphone in Diepsloot Ext 2.

“Their nightmare began when they encountered the police, who were doing a routine stop-and-search,” stated Mavimbela.

“When stopped, the suspects ran for their lives. One was caught in possession of the cellphone, while the other two fled the scene. At that moment, the police learnt of the robbery that took place 15 minutes earlier.

“The remaining two suspects were nabbed when their hideout was raided during the early hours of Saturday morning at Mashamplani Informal Settlement. A handgun and ammunition were also recovered.”

The suspects, aged 19, 29 and 35, will face charges of armed robbery, possession of stolen property, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In a separate incident, a relentless manhunt was launched on 7 June for an 18-year-old murder suspect who reportedly stabbed a man to death the night before.

“The police searched for the suspect at different spots, including his place of residence, where he was arrested on the tracing team’s third visit at about 2.30am.”

The suspect is said to have intervened during an argument between the deceased and the suspect’s friend. He allegedly produced a sharp object and stabbed the victim in the upper body. The victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The suspect will be charged with murder.

All four are expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
