Sandton Round Table warms up the children

DIEPSLOOT – The Sandton Round Table volunteers are the reason for the warm smiles on the children's faces at The Family Africa Centre.

This is because they recently distributed 500 blankets to the children and filled their tummies with a lovely meal of hot chocolate, hot dogs and crisps. Chairperson of The Family Africa Centre, Rachel Aird expressed her gratitude to the volunteers’ efforts. “We are so thankful that the Sandton Round Table cares about the children of Diepsloot and goes out of its way to assist us every year,” she said.

Aird added that it becomes very cold in the shacks in winter, and heating is often by paraffin or wood fires, both of which are expensive and many of the children have no electricity at home.

“Imagine load shedding, and how we all hate that, but all the time,” said Aird, adding that the few blankets left over from the donation will go to the children at our Free Day Care Centre.

Aird said they have a lot more people either living with HIV or TB, all needing help of some sort. “They will be feeling the cold this winter, so contact us if anyone wants to get involved,” she added.
