Tour operator claims Lion Park employee was reluctant to help victim

LANSERIA - The tour operator who tried to rescue his client, Katherine Chappell, from a lioness at The Lion Park on 1 June has reportedly said that a Lion Park employee, who also attended the scene of the attack, 'did not want to help the victim'.

Chappell (29), who was a special effects editor for a hit TV show, succumbed to the injuries she sustained during the lion attack.

According to Network 24  Pierre Potgieter, a tour operator from Kalabash tours, said he had attempted to help Chappell after the attack by placing pressure to her wounds.

He also said he had suffered a minor heart attack while trying to help Chappell.

Potgieter alleges that he asked a Lion Park employee to help him place pressure on Chappell’s wounds so that Potgieter could drive the victim to hospital but the employee had been reluctant to do so.

Scott Simpson, operations manager at The Lion Park said he was aware of Potgieter’s allegations and the park would conduct their own internal investigation but added that the park staff did their best under the circumstances.
