AU summit to hit Sandton this June

SANDTON - WITH over 50 countries expected to take part, the Sandton Convention Centre is set to play host to the upcoming 25th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union this month.

The centre will host the upcoming session from 7 June and it is the second largest heads of state meeting to be held at the centre in its 15-year history; something the centre expressed excitement about.

“We are proud to be the host venue for this auspicious bi-annual event at which decisions that impact our continent will be made,” said Mati Nyazema, executive director of Sandton Convention Centre.

“The requirements for international summit comprises… high levels of security for the top-ranking leaders and delegations who attend, [and] as one of Africa’s largest purpose-built convention and exhibition centre, we are certainly the best venue for the job.”

Nyazema added that the centre was proud to provide an ideal platform for such high-level discussions and decision-making meetings that affect the continent on such a large scale.

The AU summit will run from 7 to 15 June and is hosted bi-annually in different countries.
