It is alleged that three suspects shot and critically injured two security guards in an attempted armed robbery.

“I am pleased to report that both guards, William Malebati and Brian Monepya, are in a stable condition in a critical care unit,” said Siddall. “William sustained gunshot wounds to both arms resulting in severe arterial bleeding, and bones in both arms were broken. When Brian was shot, the bullet ricocheted off his vest and lodged in his jaw.”

The association also thanked the emergency medical response paramedics of Advanced Life Support-Specialised Logistical Assistance (SLA) who were on the scene within two minutes of the call being received.

“Without this unique service offering dedicated to the Lonehill community, the Fidelity Security Service guards would not have received the life-saving treatment and would have no doubt bled out on the scene. Thank you to Mark, Anita and the full SLA team who stabilised and transported both guards to hospital,” Siddall continued.

“The support and commitment from our community have been amazing – this is truly what makes Lonehill such a special place to live.”

Both guards and their families have been offered trauma counselling, and the association has set up a fund for residents to donate money towards the guards’ rehabilitation and future medical expenses.

Fidelity Security Services has confirmed that additional resources will be deployed in the greater Lonehill area along with increased police patrols.

Because the case was opened with the Douglasdale police, it now falls under the Honeydew Cluster. Spokesperson for the Honeydew Cluster, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said it was currently unknown what the suspects’ motive was for entering the complex.

“Douglasdale Saps are investigating the case of attempted murder and armed robbery,” Jacobs added.

“No suspects have been arrested as yet.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Douglasdale Police Station on 011 699 1333.
