R2.6 million worth of marijuana confiscated after local drug bust

FOURWAYS – THE Douglasdale Police Station together with the Hawks closed down a hydroponic marijuana operation in Heidelberg, confiscating drugs with a street value of R2.6 million.

Hydroponic marijuana is a high-quality and more expensive version of the drug, and it is grown by using water and liquid nutrients instead of soil.

The successful operation came after Douglasdale police arrested a man for drug dealing in the North Riding area. After his release, the man was arrested a week later for the same offence. Police were then able to source information from him which led to the arrest of his three suppliers in the Fourways area.

One of the three suspects was found in possession of hydroponic marijuana to the value of R37 000, and just under R200 000 in cash. Police also received information from the suspects which led to the massive bust in Heidelberg.

Captain Fritz Kriel of Douglasdale police attributed the success to the increased effort the Douglasdale Police Station and its staff were putting in.
