BREAKING NEWS: Shootout in Lonehill

LONEHILL - Two Fidelity security guards were shot and injured in an alleged armed robbery.

CPF chairperson , Jean Berdou said the police have excellent leads and arrests are expected to be made soon. He also confirmed that the reaction officer’s firearm was stolen by the suspects.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum have released an official statement confirming that both guards are in hospital in a stable condition.

According to chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Jean Berdou it is believed that the gate to a housing complex, at the corner of Sceales and Tate Roads, was open and  a security guard went to investigate. A white Mercedes drove in and the guard went to inquire what the occupants of the vehicle were doing on the property.  Suspects opened fire on the guard. The guard alerted armed response and then ran to the complex manager. The suspects also opened fire on the armed response guard as they fled the scene and stole his firearm.

One officer was allegedly wearing a bulletproof vest but the bullet skimmed past his neck while the other was shot in both his arms.

It is alleged that two of the suspects were wearing reflective vests.

In response to the incident, founder of EBlockwatch Andre Snyman urged  community members to unite together to fight crime. Snyman encouraged residents to join whatsapp groups like the Street Talker group to stay informed and in contact.

However residents are asked to avoid the area as it has been cordoned off and police investigations are underway.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum has confirmed that two Fidelity security guards were shot and injured in an alleged armed robbery which happened shortly after 2pm on 19 May.

The incident happened at a complex in Sceales Road when the guards tried to prevent suspects from fleeing the crime scene.

The CPF spokesperson Danielle Dooley stated that both were taken to a near-by hospital, one was in a critical condition.
