CPF applauds crime prevention entities

FOURWAYS – THE Douglasdale Community Policing Forum has sung the praises of recent work that the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, the South African Police Services and Gauteng Transport have been doing in the Fourways area.

“There’s been a huge improvement in the work that they have been doing,” said David Foley during their monthly CPF meeting. He said what was happening on some roads in the area was appalling.

“Traffic islands had just become another lane to not only taxis, but regular motorists were now driving on the shoulder of the road regularly. It needed to be brought back to mild sanity,” he said.

But he said this is changing and officials from the different authorities had been doing a lot, even holding after-hours operations. Foley said the fact that the number of arrests made by the police has risen shows that they are working hard.

“I have seen and worked with absolute stars at the Douglasdale Police Station. People think JMPD aren’t involved, but that’s not true, these guys are key guys who want to make a difference,” said Foley. However, he encouraged people to report bad behaviour, and discourage people from paying bribes.

Captain Fritz Kriel expressed his appreciation for the gesture of gratitude. “It’s good to hear that people appreciate the work we do. There are so many negative things people say about the police, but there is some good we are putting in,” said Kriel.

He added that when he relates this kind of feedback from the community to his colleagues he sees how much it boosts their morale. Kriel also admitted that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done at Douglasdale Police Station, but said they have put in a lot of effort and are continuing the work of renewing the station’s image.
