Crime prevention training to resume in Paulshof

Paulshof - DOMESTIC Watch meetings are back in Paulshof.

Crime prevention trainer Penny Steyn is not giving up after a spell of low attendance in the suburb meetings.

Steyn temporarily suspended the monthly crime training sessions in Paulshof after failing to get domestic workers and gardeners to attend.

With the help of Paulshof Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association, Steyn will resume her training in the area on 27 May at Manor 1, Cambridge Office Park, corner Stonehaven and Witkoppen roads.

Steyn said arming domestic workers with skills on crime prevention was one of the best ways to protect homes.

“Domestic workers and gardeners need to be skilled on the dos and don’ts when caught in a crime scene and if they lack that how are they going to protect our homes,” said Steyn.

Steyn said central on her teaching was the need for keepers of the home to co-operate with thugs upon coming face-to-face with them.

“They must not fight them or remain silent or resist orders, but do as they are told, but should however have a panic button on their bodies,” said the crime-fighting hero.

Paulshof Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association chairperson Shathi Govender said they were doing everything in their power to make Steyn’s 27 May training a success.

Govender said the association was in the process of drumming-up attendance and support by using the residents’ database.

“We are sending e-mail messages to our residents, encouraging them to send their domestic workers for training,” said Govender.

He added that they have also resorted to the use of noticeboards to spread the word.

Steyn launched her crime prevention training 14 years ago. So far, she has trained 1 200 domestic workers from her 68 lessons.
