Take better care of animals

HENNOPS VALLEY - WOODROCK Animal Rescue received a high number of abandoned animals during the April holidays.

Woodrock is home to 150 dogs from informal settlements, which they feed, sterilise and inoculate. The centre also teaches people about pet responsibility. Estelle Meldau from the centre said people do not make provisions for their animals over the holidays. “During the Freedom Day long weekend of 27 April, Woodrock received 10 calls of lost and found dogs. People make plans to go away and leave the plans for finding someone to care for their pets to the last minute and end up leaving them unattended.”

Meldau added that people do not tag their pets or microchip them. She firmly stated, “Animals do not talk. We implore the public to make certain that if they have pets and they plan to go away, to please make certain that their pets are safe and tagged.”

To help a dog in need SMS the word DOG to 40733.
