Eskom to implement stage 2 load-shedding

JOBURG - Load shedding will move from stage 1 to stage 2 at 5pm today, and this is likely to continue until 10pm on the evening of 7 May.

The Eskom media desk said teh cooler weather conditions have put further pressure on an already constrained electricity grid.

“We would like to thank all electricity users for responding to our calls to save and we urge everyone to save as much as they can because every little bit counts. We have asked our industrial customers to also contribute towards savings through load curtailment, which goes a long way in addressing capacity constraints,” said the power entity.

The system will be short of 2 000MW this evening, however it is important to note that although certain areas will be without electricity for a certain period, about 93% of South Africans will still continue to receive full power supply at the same time

Eskom said it would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.

Eskom calls on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by urgently switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.

Eskom will use the published load shedding schedules which are available on the Eskom website for Eskom customers.  Eskom customers can also contact our customer call centre 0860 037 566.

Municipal customers should contact their municipalities for information.

Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all the media platforms.
