Broadacres water woes to be scoped out

BROADACRES - Residents will soon be able to say goodbye to frequent pipe bursts and numerous water outages as Joburg Water is now replacing piping within the area to the value of R4 908 732.

According to Dubraee Komane, a representative from DKPB Contractors who was appointed by Joburg Water to work on the upgrade named Project Scope, the project will include the replacement of old asbestos cement pipes with plastic pipes that will be able to better withstand water pressure.

They will also install new pressure release valves. The information document on the project estimates that a total of 5 699 metres of piping will be replaced.

The streets that will be affected by the upgrade are Syringa Avenue, Riverview Road, Pine Road, Broadacres Drive, Lombardy Road, Fredrick Drive, Cedar Road, Cypress Walk and Cedar Avenue. The project is expected to start on 4 May and should last for six months.

Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane said the project will clearly bring much-needed relief to the area. “Residents are the funders of this project and now they can see the value of their money,” he said. “This project is in the interest of local residents and is a big achievement for the community.”

Komane said if residents see workman digging at the sides of their roads, they should be aware that they are most probably working on the pipe replacement project.
