Alleged dog abuser is a wanted man

BRYANSTON - Using social media as a tool, a member of the public and an animal welfare inspector are trying to track down an alleged dog abuser.

Ross McPhail witnessed a man abusing his boerboel at the side of Cambridge Road in Bryanston on 20 April.

He captured a video of the incident and posted it to his Facebook page. Soon after, the video went viral and numerous Facebook users were commenting on and sharing the video to try to raise awareness of the incident.

McPhail was then contacted by animal welfare group Soweto Animal Rescue and Advisory Centre (Sarac), a group dedicated to educating the public on what animal cruelty really is.

According to Charlene Barnfield of Sarac, since taking over the case, animal welfare inspector Jerry Selwane and Ross McPhail have laid a cruelty charge against the man who McPhail videoed pummelling his dog.

This means that the man in the video is now wanted by Sarac and the police. Selwane is also meeting with vets and security companies in the area to ask for assistance in identifying the man in the video.

Anyone with information on the alleged abuser or the incident is urged to contact Selwane.
