Five new high-performance vehicles donated to Douglasdale Police Station

DOUGLASDALE - Auto and General donated five brand-new high-performance vehicles to the Douglasdale Police Station to be used by the station's dedicated tactical team.

The new tactical team is called the Echo Relief Unit and it functions as a specialised response unit to address priority crimes in the Douglasdale policing precinct. The new vehicles will also allow the team to supplement the current sector vehicles.

At the handover of the vehicles at Auto and General Park on William Nicol Drive, CEO of the holding company for Auto and General, Telesure Investment Holdings, Tom Creamer, explained that his company’s strategy centres around thinking of community as a family and then deciding who to help first in that family.

“Research shows that increased police visibility reduces crime,” Creamer said.

“We also want to see that a donation is well utilised and I can already see that the police members are so motivated, happy and proud with their new vehicles.”

Jean Berdou, chairperson of the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum, said the forum was delighted with the donation as it represents the beginning of a huge partnership between Auto and General and the Douglasdale CPF.

Auto and General and the CPF will soon announce a series of joint initiatives including a merit programme for police officers, all with the aim of improving policing in the precinct.

Creamer said the positioning of the new Auto and General Park on William Nicol Drive gave the company the prime position to aid both Douglasdale Police Station and Diepsloot Police Station.

Station commander for Douglasdale Police Station, Brigadier Lettie Hugo said the vehicles would be used to patrol the entire policing precinct, but would especially be used to patrol William Nicol Drive.
