Second win for Saints

PETER PLACE - The St Stithians Easter Sports Festival went into its second day on 2 April with an air of excitement for all the great displays of sportsmanship from all the teams performing.

After a stellar performance from the St Stithians Boy’s College in tennis on the opening day, there was a plethora of exciting sporting action on the second day with Saints going up against Schoonspruit Invitational team in Rugby at 1.30pm. The St Stithians Girls’ College netball team went head to head with Krugersdorp High School and Redhill College at 9.30am and 1pm.

The St Stithians Boys’ College rugby team dominated in their game against Schoonspruit Invitation with Mike Du Toit scoring two tries while Nick-Duncan Traill scored three impressive conversion to win the match 36-5.

The netball courts also hosted some intense action with Saints losing their first match against Krugersdorp High School 25-31 but beating Redhill School 17-16.

But though there was some amazing sporting action, there was a relaxed atmosphere among everyone in attendance with parents and students mingling at the vending area with food and drink.

Spokesperson of St Stithians College Sandy Andrew said that the second day went extremely well. She said, “After weeks of constant planning and preparing behind the festival it has turned out excellently.”

Andrew added that parents, students and local residents can expect great fun for the rest of the festival with great entertainment, food and exceptional sportsmanship.
