Autism awareness

JOBURG - THE 2 April marks World Autism Awareness Day – a day to show acceptance and learn more about the condition that is affecting more people everyday.

World Autism Awareness Day is a day that encourages all people to highlight the effect that autism has on the quality of life of people who suffer with the condition.

Autism is a condition that affects children under the age of six months, and causes impairments including that of a social and communicative nature, and restricted or repetitive behaviour.

The impairments experienced by people who suffer with autism cause them to develop slower than their peers and results in the inability to form social relationships appropriate for their age.

Specialists are still uncertain of the exact cause of the condition, and it is for this reason that no cures have been developed to counteract or stop the effects.

There is, however, treatment for the condition in the form of applied behaviour analysis which assists children with coping with the illness and dealing with the challenges that accompany it.

The signs and symptoms of the illness include nutrient deficiency, brain and gut inflammation, impaired detoxification, limited interest in play or social activities, and a hard time developing relationships.

Know the signs and make sure to be aware of the condition to get suitable treatment.
