A literary Easter

BRYANSTON – The Friends of Bryanston Library organisation celebrated yet another successful book sale while also welcoming the Easter holidays by having a special book reading.

The sale was held on 28 March and Juliet Manning, chairperson of the organisation, said once again multiple books were sold to raise funds for the library. Recycled books, almost always in mint condition, are sold at a steal for R15 a book.

“Our book sales are growing more and more popular,” said Manning. “The Bryanston community has been very supportive and has told us that they look forward to our book sales.”

If residents have any second-hand books that they would like to donate to the organisation, it will be greatly appreciated as many of these books are also handed over to various charities in the area.

Story time at the book sale was made extra special by Karen Corbett, who had the group of attentive children hanging on every sentence she read.

“Such a lovely atmosphere was created through our Easter-themed stories,” said Corbett, who is also part of Friends of Bryanston Library. “It’s so wonderful to see how excited the children get, just magical.”

Corbett’s aim through story time readings is to teach children that books are not only for reading, but can also be used for interactive educational fun.

So, avid literature lovers and Bryanston residents diarise the next book sale which will take place on 18 April (generally the first Saturday of every month, although April differs due to the Easter holidays), and allow yourself to get lost in the world of words.
