Two fatal accidents in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT - Two people were killed in two separate accidents on roads around Diepsloot in a 24-hour period between 25 and 26 March.

On the afternoon of 26 March, spokesperson for ER24 paramedics Russel Meiring said, “A man in his 20s was killed this afternoon on the N14 highway near the William Nicol Drive off-ramp in Diepsloot.”

He said paramedics from the ER24 Johannesburg West branch arrived on scene to find the lifeless body of the patient lying 40 metres away from the light motor vehicle.

“On assessment, paramedics discovered that the patient had already succumbed to his multiple severe injuries. Unfortunately nothing more could be done for the patient,” said Meiring.

He said the driver of the light motor vehicle fortunately did not sustain any injuries and local authorities were on scene to investigate the cause of the collision.

On the evening of 25 March, ER24 stated one person died and several others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical in a collision late last night.

Another ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said, “A taxi travelling down the R511 towards Diepsloot with at least 18 passengers rolled after colliding with a car. When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found one patient trapped in the car and others from the taxi lying all over.”

Bodasing said a man believed to be in his 30s, who was a passenger in the taxi, had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

“The man who was trapped, was extricated by Fire and Rescue Services. He and other patients were assessed and treated. One patient was airlifted to hospital. Others were transported to hospital by ambulance,”said Bodasing.

The exact cause of the collision is unknown. Authorities were on scene for further investigations.
