A warm winter ahead for Diepsloot pupils

DIEPSLOOT - Tsogo Sun gave back to 2 200 pupils in Diepsloot on 24 March.

The initiative is part of the Tsogo Sun Duke of Edinburgh Cup amateur golfing tournament, which is played annually in 10 different countries in the world. The aim of the cup is to raise for funds to benefit children and the youth in need.

In honour of the cup, the children of the Muzomuhle Primary School, one of the oldest and largest schools in Diepsloot, was given 2 200 anoraks, 400 pairs of shoes and 300 school jerseys to keep pupils warm this winter.

“Over the years, we have raised a considerable amount for underprivileged children, and this is one of the many projects we have been involved in. It feels so good to give back to help these children with things we take for granted, like a pair of shoes and a jersey,” said Noeleen Bruton, director of group marketing for Tsogo Sun.

The children were delighted and sang out in joy as representatives of Tsogo Sun arrived with all the goodies that were to be handed out.

Bruton said they had chosen Diepsloot because many of their employees come from the area and work at Montecasino.

“It only seemed right to come back here, we are directly giving back to those in need and, in turn, these children will do the same,” she said.

The principal of the school was delighted by the donation, and identified pupils who were in desperate need of school shoes and jerseys.

Head of human resources for Tsogo Sun, Vusi Dlamini addressed the pupils and spoke about the importance of giving back. “You can’t expect to receive if your hands are closed and full, you need to give,” he said.

The day was deemed a success as the pupils shouted in happiness for the much-needed gifts they received.
