Super mom set to take the crown

SUNNINGHILL - When you think brains and beauty, Pamella Marlowe should spring to mind as this 33-year-old chartered accountant, wife, mum of two, committed long distance runner and humanitarian continues to balance the stresses of having a professional career and being a dedicated parent to her children.

Currently residing in Sunninghill, Marlowe is one of the 100 women who has qualified as a semi-finalist of the Mrs South Africa pageant. The 25 finalists will be announced at the Cansa Gala Dinner on 24 April at Emperors Palace. The pageant, which is a women’s empowerment programme, aims to recognise and celebrate married women in the country that are excelling in all aspects of their lives, moreover the pageant seeks to promote humanitarian and charity efforts.

Marlowe decided to enter the pageant as she believed that she is a role model and has the qualities of a Mrs South Africa. “As a mother and a professional, I saw it as my duty to show women that it is possible to have a successful career, be a dedicated mother and wife, but still look and feel good while fulfilling all your roles. The pageant will allow me to communicate with women from all walks of life, share my story, and raise awareness around cancer, as it is something close to my heart,” she said. Marlowe is passionate about women empowerment. During this journey and beyond, she would like to continue engaging the youth, especially young women, about the power of education. “The youth sometimes believe that they are owed something by someone. Unfortunately we need to invest in our future and I believe that education is the key to a better future,” she said.

She added that it is important to have a balanced life and said there is a misconception that you can’t be successful in all aspects of your life. “There is a misconception that you cannot have a successful career whilst being a full-time mum, but you can do it both. Without the help of my family and husband, I would not be able to do it. We have system that works and it is all about team work,” she said.

Contestants, such as Marlowe, are required to find sponsors to sponsor their journey. Currently Marlowe is looking for a small business that will benefit from the exposure, as she believes that by giving small businesses the platform to grow, it contributes to the economy.

Marlowe would like businesses in the community to help sponsor her journey in the pageant. If anyone is interested you can contact her via email to discuss the benefits of sponsorship.
